前回に続き、blowを使ったスラングです

今日はblow out とblow out of proportion


⑯Blow (someone) out (v.):
In SPORTS - to win by a big margin, by a lot of points.
スポーツで、大差、大量得点で勝つこと。

スポーツて使われるスラングです。
これも外へ飛ばすってところからこの意味になっているのでしょうね。


ex: "How did the Lakers do? They were blown out by the Celtics."
Lakersはどうたっだの？Celticsにぼろ負けだよ。

Lakersが大量得点だ勝った場合は、
"They blew Celtics out!
となります。


⑰Blow (something) out of proportion:
To make (something) seem much more important than it actually is.
（何かを）現実よりもっと重要なようにすること。

out of proportion＝調和、均整、バランスが取れていない
blow=吹く→吹いて膨らませる、と強引に？解釈することにして、
現実とは調和していない状態に膨らませる→誇張するということでしょうか。

ex: "Of course his reaction was extreme! He always blows things out of proportion."
もちろん彼のリアクションはすごいよ！彼はいつも物事を誇張するからね。
